Yet another town in Andalucia, Spain, joins Covenant of Mayors to fight against global warming

Vicar, in the Spanish province of Almeria, has just joined the Covenant of Mayors for Sustainability, thus in turn joining the more than 150 Spanish cities who have signed up to the European Union project. All of the groups in Vicar’s town hall recently unanimously approved joining this covenant at a provincial level, thus showing their sensitivity regarding environmental issues and committing themselves to applying a plan of action for sustainable energy and reducing CO2 emissions by at least 20 percent. A follow-up report will be drawn up at least every two years. The Covenant of Mayors is a project of the European Union that attempts to go above and beyond the energy goal set by the EU of reducing CO2 emissions by 20 percent from now until 2020. It has already been signed by more than 350 European cities and is regarded as the most ambitious initiative yet to be carried out by citizens in the fight against global warming.
