Spain, the second country with most open source activity
Spain ranks second among 75 countries with open source activity, according to a study carried out by Red Hat and Georgia Institute of Technology, which seek to create a “quick tool” that measures and compares open source activity. France is first on the index, followed by Spain, Germany, Finland and Australia.
European open source activity predominates over the activity in countries such as the United States or Japan, which are in the ninth and fourteenth positions respectively. Here are the top ten on the Open Source Index and their score: 1. France (1.35) 2. Spain (1.07) 3. Germany (1.05) 4. Australia (1.04) 5. Finland (1.03) 6. United Kingdom (1.00) 7. Norway (0.95) 8. Estonia (0.89) 9. United States (0.89) 10. Denmark (0.79) To develop the framework for measuring open source usage, Georgia Tech researchers based their study on academic reviews, professional and general publications, and interviews with open source experts. Dr. Paul M. A. Baker, Director of Research for the Center for Advanced Communications Policy (CACP) at Georgia Tech, summed up the results by saying that, “As the study indicates, open source is thriving across the globe.” The summary of the study can be seen here. |
